Acupuncture with Izzy

Izzy Pask | Acupuncturist BSc (Hons) Lic Ac MBAcC

Hello, nice to meet you

I’m Izzy, a holistic acupuncture practitioner in East Sussex. I help my clients find balance in body, mind and spirit.

About me

My practice embraces the holistic nature of acupuncture, meeting you as a whole and supporting you to find balance, whether that be in body, mind or spirit. It is important to me to provide a safe space, allowing each person to come as they are.

I offer treatment using an integrated approach, drawing from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and 5 Element Acupuncture alongside supporting treatments such as Moxibustion, Cupping, Guasha and Electroacupuncture.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture utilises extremely fine needles, being inserted into specific points in the body.

From an eastern perspective, it is directing the body to achieve balance while ensuring the smooth and continuous flow of energy or ‘Qi’.

From a western perspective, acupuncture triggers the release of enkephalins (opioids that are naturally produced in the body) which regulate pain, mood and stress responses.

Acupuncture treatment is person specific, so the experiences of each person will vary. Some may feel changes after one or just a few treatments, while others will feel real changes after 5-6 treatments. This will be down to the nature of the complaint, how the individual is functioning and how deeply the condition is manifesting

What do I treat?

Acupuncture and its supporting treatments can be effective in treating and relieving a wide range of physical and mental symptoms and conditions

Musculoskeletal

Chronic pain/Fibromyalgia, lower back pain, neck pain, joint pain (knees, shoulders, elbows, injuries and arthritis)

Headaches, migraines & nervous system

Tension headaches, migraines, facial paralysis/pain (e.g. Bell’s palsy, Trigeminal Neuralgia), jaw pain (TMJ), dizziness/vertigo

Digestive issues

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, abdominal pains, nausea/vomiting, bloating

Mental-emotional conditions

Anxiety, poor concentration/memory, insomnia, stress/burnout

Gynaecological Issues

Pre-menstrual Syndrome (PMS), painful, heavy or irregular periods, fertility issues, menopausal symptoms

Supporting treatments

Alongside my holistic acupuncture practice, I can optionally use other traditional chinese medicine approaches to treatment and healing.

These include:

Moxibustion involves the burning of the herb Chinese mugwort (Artemisia argyi), commonly known as moxa, to warm acupuncture points and areas of the body. There are different techniques such as placing the moxa on the handle of a needle, a moxa stick, placing moxa directly on the skin.

The use of a smooth edge tool to repeatedly stroke/scrape the skin. Guasha has been gaining popularity as part of a beauty regime but has actually been used as part of Chinese medicine for thousands of years. “Gua” means to scrape, and “Sha” indicates the redness which appears as a result.

A partial vacuum is created within cups which are placed on the skin. This produces a suction effect, impacting skin, muscle and fascia. The vacuum is produced either by fire (traditional method) or by a pump.

Low voltage electrical signals are passed between two needles, stimulating muscles and nerves to ‘amp-up’ healing. The sensation is a light pulsing and has been shown to enhance results for treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.

How to choose an Acupuncturist?

It is important when selecting a practitioner to ensure they have completed suitable training and are a member of an accredited body (such as the British Acupuncture Council or Association of Acupuncture Clinicians).

As an acupuncturist, it’s important to me that my clients feel relaxed, supported and at ease. I offer a free 15 minute telephone call for new clients to discuss your needs and see how I can help you.

Research

Over the last 20 years, research into acupuncture has been gaining momentum, increasing at more than twice the rate of conventional biomedicine. See the below resources for more information on how research is being done as well as the results.
